Not only was Diana able to raise millions of dollars for a variety of causes but she was able to attract the obvious publicity which highlighted issues of great concern. Diana was very 'hands on' and was not afraid to meet these challenges head on. It was not unusual to see Princess Diana with patients suffering from HIV/Aids, hugging disadvantaged children or wearing mine clearing protection, when associated with the Red Cross.
There were six charities closest to her heart, Centrepoint (a London group that aids homeless youth), the Leprosy Mission, various cancer benefits, AIDS and the International Red Cross (on land mine issues).
The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund (U.S.) was created as a way of continuing Diana's work in the United States. To date the fund has contributed $4 million to forty-two youth driven groups.
Charities established after her death continue to attract a great following.
